Digital computer labs are crucial for the development of the education system, providing students with the necessary technological skills. The government has placed special emphasis on digital education and ICT learning to modernize education and make it more accessible and affordable for all students. To support this initiative, several projects are being implemented in Bangladesh in collaboration with the Government. One of these is the “Situation Analysis of Technology in Education” project, supported by the Asian Development Bank. The project aims to study how technology is being used in secondary schools across Bangladesh.
The study seeks to generate rigorous evidence on the current state of digital infrastructure utilization in secondary schools in Bangladesh and to identify the institutional, technological, and human factors associated with the adoption of educational technology (EdTech) in classroom settings. Despite substantial investments in digital laboratories, multimedia classrooms, and ICT equipment over the past decade, there remains limited large-scale evidence on how these resources are being used in practice and the constraints that schools face in integrating technology into teaching and learning processes. MOMODa FOUNDATION is doing the implementation of this project.
Over the past decade, the Government of Bangladesh has significantly expanded ICT infrastructure in secondary schools through initiatives led by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), the ICT Division, and development partners. Many schools have been equipped with computer laboratories and digital learning facilities to promote technology-enabled education.
Despite these investments, limited evidence exists on the current condition, utilization, and effectiveness of these facilities. This study was conducted to assess the status of computer laboratories, ICT infrastructure, and digital competencies of teachers and students in secondary schools with existing computer labs. The findings are expected to provide evidence to support future policies and initiatives for improving digital education and the effective use of ICT resources in Bangladesh.
